Gluten Free Christmas
What you need to know
Whether it's your first gluten free Christmas or your 50th, it's always a good idea to familiarise yourself with tips for tackling the festive season. From shopping to family gatherings, and work parties to the main event itself, we understand just how stressful Christmas can be for those of us with dietary requirements.
We've got you covered with guides to ๐ฝ๏ธ Christmas Dinner, ๐ Shopping, ๐ฃ๏ธ Explaining to Others, and ๐ช Christmas Markets.
๐ฝ๏ธ Christmas Dinner
It might surprise you to know that making a christmas dinner gluten free doesn't actually require that many changes. It mostly involves making sure you're buying the naturally gluten free version of a product, rather than one that's (unnecessarily) had gluten added to it. For example, the majority of pigs in blankets are naturally gluten free, but some contain wheat to bulk the sausage out - leave these on the shelf and grab a gluten free version so that everyone can enjoy them!
๐ Shopping
We've created the ultimate supermarket shopping guide - it includes a mix of accidentally, naturally and dedicated gluten free party food, snacks, desserts, sweet treats, cheese & crackers, alcohol and so much more!
Click on the blog below to see the full list and links to every product! All of these products are completely gluten free without any 'may contain' warnings, but remember to always double check ingredients before buying! ๐

๐ฃ๏ธ Explaining to Others
Telling people that you're gluten free can be a daily struggle. It can be even more daunting at Christmas time when you might be dining with extended family, friends or work colleagues that you don't often eat with. That's why we've put together a handy message template that you can copy and personalise to explain your dietary requirements - simply click the message below to copy! ๐
Hey [Name],
Really excited for Christmas! ๐ I just wanted to check in about catering for me because I'm gluten free โ even a crumb can make me seriously ill ๐ข so I have to be really strict about what I eat, which means no wheat, barley, rye, oats, or anything labeled as โmay containโ gluten.
It would be great if you could keep any packaging for me to double-check, or send me a quick photo if youโre unsure about anything.
I also have to be careful with cross-contamination, so can't have things that have been cooked with gluten-containing food or use spreads/dips that have already been in contact with gluten.
If itโs easier, Iโm happy to bring something or help with prep โ just let me know! Lots of food is naturally gluten free or can easily be made gluten free, this christmas guide explains more: https://www.gfglee.com/christmas
Really appreciate this and just let me know if you need anything โค๏ธ
๐ช Christmas Markets
As much as we would LOVE to travel round the UK & Ireland to visit all the Christmas Markets and find out what gluten free options each has, Santa didn't allow us use of his magical sleigh - rude right?! ๐๐ ๐ฝ BUT luckily we have an amazing bunch of followers who banded together to give us a tonne of recommendations from the markets they've visited! Please make sure to double check with all vendors!
